YISS stresses academic and spiritual excellence and seeks to integrate a biblical worldview throughout its kindergarten thru grade twelve educational setting. Its academic program is based on the U.S. curricular model with modifications in place to address the needs of its international population.  YISS’s student body represents over 50 countries.

OBJECTIVE:

The Director of Technology is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising, and maintaining instructional and administrative information systems and technology.

The Director of Technology provides strategy, vision, and leadership for developing and implementing technology initiatives to support instructional programs and operational services for Yongsan International School of Seoul (YISS), a highly successful international school in Seoul, South Korea.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of technology for all K-12 education programs to maximize student learning and engagement (EdTech)
  • Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of technology for institutional operations (InfoTech)
  • Provide leadership in the assessment of current technology best practices and recommends improvements to educational technology curriculum, programs, and institutional operations
  • Create and implement strategy for the development, deployment, maintenance, and utilization technology to support instructional and administrative activities
  • Collaborate with curriculum and instructional staff to support teaching initiatives with technology and provides guidance to integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Administer and coordinate K-12 educational technology programs and supervise educational technology support staff
  • Promote the application of technology to support the diverse needs of students and to maximize student learning
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate the operation of all non-educational information technology systems and related support staff
  • Direct the planning and implementation of technology professional development programs for teaching, operations, and related support staff
  • Provide organizational leadership for technology support of institutional operations
  • Prepare operating budgets and resource planning for educational technology and information systems management programs
  • Manage relationships with vendors for sales, service, and support of all information systems and technology
  • Facilitate communication between organization staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources
  • Monitor the security of data processed to ensure integrity and reliability of information systems
  • Create and enforce technical standards for systems, development, and software to ensure new and existing technology can be effectively supported and maintained
  • Direct the continuous improvement of technology staff, equipment, and procedures to maintain pace with technological progress
  • Explore new technologies for future planning and potential implementation by leveraging vendor relationships, professional development, and industry publications
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, developments, and changes in information and educational technology

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, information systems, or related field of study
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in academic and non-academic organizations with increasing levels of organizational responsibility
  • Thorough understanding of information technology with a strong business acumen
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, and process improvement in academic, nonprofit, and business environments
  • Experience managing variety of technology projects such as infrastructure upgrades, enterprise system deployments, and academic computing initiatives of both software and hardware
  • Experience in multiple programming environments allowing for customization of internal software applications (e.g. HTML/CSS/JavaScript, C++/C#/Java, SQL)
  • Experience in the setup, configuration, and administration of integrated network solutions and database management (e.g. Google Apps, SQL Studio, Visual Studio, and Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technically complex information, concepts, and applications to non-technical users in an education environment
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Must be a Native English speaker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in education, business, information systems, or related field of study, or equivalent IT certifications.
  • Education degree (or equivalent hours) for certification in a K-12 environment
  • Technology certifications demonstrating in-depth knowledge and understanding of technology issues in education and business operations (e.g. MSCE, A+, CCNPADEGCT)
  • Experience leading academic computing initiatives such as learning management system implementations, school information systems implementations, or 1:1 computer assignment
  • Prior experience with PowerSchool and Schoology

  • Proven understanding in the role of technology to facilitate teaching and learning with a dedication to use technology for improving student and staff excellence and success
  • Ability to lead with a collaborative approach, seeking feedback and establishing relationships with colleagues and subordinates through the use of strong listening and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, collaborate with, and influence staff in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to strategically lead the planning, development, and implementation of technology programs for instructional and administrative departments
